With the 2017 NBA finals under way, everyone is wondering who will take home the crown this year. However, what if there was a way to predict the winner of the finals based on game-worn auction prices for each team’s star player? We decided to do exactly that – predict the NBA Finals winner based on previous jersey winning auction prices

This is the third time the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers have matched up in the finals in the past three years.

In 2015, the Warriors won the series 4-2. That season Steph Curry’s jerseys went for an average of  $20,520; Lebron James’ jerseys went for slightly less at an average of $17,609. Higher auction prices correctly predicted a Warrior’s victory.

In 2016, the Cleveland Cavaliers came back from 3-1 to win the series. That season James’ jerseys went for an average of $32,746 where Curry’s only averaged $20,821. Once again the higher auction prices predicted the correct outcome with the Cavaliers on top.

This year, at an average of $49,858, we see Lebron James’ jerseys going for top dollar. Meanwhile Steph Curry’s are going for an average of $20,164. Looks like Lebron James and the Cavaliers will come back to win it all!
